The current Syrp Genie App will remain on the App Store for the time being but eventually, this app will become redundant and be removed. All the features that were previously included in the old app have now been merged into the Syrp Genie 2 App including Panorama, Time-lapse, Turntable and Video modes. Along with these features keyframing for time-lapse and video, multi-row panorama, live drive and stop motion are included.
Compatibility:
We have worked hard to make our new app backwards compatible with previously released products as much as we possibly could but due to hardware constraints, there are ultimately some limitations.

Other helpful tips!
Do you really need to force a firmware update when a new App update is released?
For now, this will most likely be the case, but there's a good reason for it. We are in the process of adding new features and fixes to the App and every time this happens, we invite you to update the app, it's after doing so that the next time you connect to a Syrp product, it will automatically ask you to update the firmware on your device to proceed. That's because your motion controller now needs to "understand" that this new feature or improvement is available and without updating your physical device the app would become unusable and unstable.
Sometimes we release updates that are not forced, and, in this case, the updates are purely related to the user interface itself such as changing icons or colours etc. In these situations, we do not need to force a firmware update on the product.
Firmware updates can take a bit of time, but they are necessary. After all the App features are released, these mandatory updates will become less frequent. Internet connection is only required for downloading the Syrp Genie App update from the app store, just like any other app.
Firmware updates happen via Bluetooth, and a WiFi network created between your phone and the Syrp product – internet not required but WiFi needs to be on, on your phone.
If you are preparing for a filmmaking trip then we recommend updating your device well before you leave to give you plenty of time for any unforeseen issues. Then make sure that auto-updates are turned off on your phone and you won't be bothered with an update from us while you are filming. Once you have a bit of downtime again then update your app and device accordingly.
Turning off auto-updates – (iOS and Android)
When you're about to go on a filmmaking mission or even worse you are in the field, you don't want your Syrp device to force you to update your product.
Both Android and iOS allow you to decide when you want to update your Syrp Genie 2 App after an update becomes available. You can choose to turn off auto-updates for all your apps or just one. This avoids the potential situation of being in the middle of nowhere on a shoot and be asked to update your Syrp motion control device.
If the App is not updated and you have turned off the auto-update option, your motion controller will continue working as usual. You can update the App and the product later on, once you're back from your filmmaking adventure and you have a bit more time on your hands.

Firmware update issues:
Firmware update issues are not uncommon, as they are quite often caused by interference from other electrical/electronic devices nearby and wireless signals that conflict with the update. We have almost always been able to successfully update a device after a failed attempt. Due to there being a number of factors outside of our control that may affect the update, it may take quite a few attempts.
